Walkabout is a licensed treatment program that uses the wilderness as an alternative to traditional treatment settings, while employing conventional therapeutic methods. Drawing upon an ancient culture's belief of rite-of-passage, Walkabout is designed to engage students in character development, resolve personal and family issues, and assist in aftercare planning.
Treatment, not wilderness or survival skills, is the primary focus at Walkabout. The wilderness setting removes material and technological distractions and uses the environment as a catalyst that moves students outside their "emotional comfort zone." This allows our expert counselors to focus on teaching healthy emotional and behavioral habits.
